Specialized Dental Implant Surgery for Long-Lasting Results

If you’re missing one or more teeth, you may struggle to chew the food you used to love. You may also feel embarrassed to talk, laugh or socialize. Missing teeth can cause changes in your facial appearance, loss of strength in your jawbone, and a decline in your health, on top of the increased self-consciousness. Whether you’re missing one tooth or all thirty-two, dental implants are a “gold standard” solution. These permanent tooth replacements restore the health and esthetics of your mouth, and can last for decades! Our team at Perio & Implant at Washington Metro has placed more than 3,000 dental implants in Rockville, MD and Washington, DC, applying bone and soft tissue training, advanced technology and high-quality materials to ensure fast healing. With expertise and skill, our periodontist provides precise and predictable dental implant surgery for a lifetime of improvement to your oral function … and daily life!

Comparing Your Tooth Replacement Options

When it comes to replacing teeth, many of our patients think of dentures and bridges first. Unfortunately, bridges require healthy adjacent teeth to be modified in order to act as foundations, while dentures can cause gagging and gum sores, and often become loose when you eat or speak. Furthermore, neither solution can provide the necessary bone stimulation to create a healthy jawbone that implants can. Made of three parts (the post, the abutment and the restoration), dental implants are a modern and permanent solution to tooth loss, designed to meet all your needs.

Securely fixed to your jawbone, dental implants restore more than 99% of your original biting and chewing power. They can replace one tooth, a row of teeth or a full arch of missing teeth. Regardless of the number of teeth you replace, dental implants make it possible to eat comfortably, feel confident in your smile, improve your overall health, and live a better quality of life. For this reason, implants are one of our preferred solutions, and nearly all patients are, or can become, candidates after preliminary treatment from Dr. Li.

Avoid Making Costly Mistakes!

Dental implants are a lifetime investment in your health, function, and quality of life. Avoid the common mistakes people make when considering implants by following our recommendations.

We Restore Your Smile in Just Three Steps

Step 1: Consultation

patient consultation

Most of our patients are already good candidates for dental implants. Many others can become good candidates with treatment for their underlying issues. In all cases, your dental implant treatment at Perio & Implant at Washington Metro will be specifically tailored to your needs. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to dental implants. We’ll find out your specific goals and assess your overall health as part of our consultation with our periodontist in Washington, DC or Rockville, MD. During that visit, we’ll also examine your mouth and take detailed scans of your treatment site. For this, we use a cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scanner and a digital intraoral scanner, allowing us the most fine-tuned view of your mouth and jaw. We’ll then review your treatment plan and walk you through the next steps of the process. Before you leave, we’ll schedule your surgery date.

Step 2: Dental Implant Surgery

Your appointment will begin with sedation. If necessary, Dr. Li will perform tooth extractions and/or bone grafting, then she will use a custom surgical guide to place your dental implants at specific angles in precise locations in your jawbone. We use high-quality titanium implants from leading manufacturers in order to ensure the longevity of your completed treatment. As a gum expert, our periodontist also ensures optimal esthetics with soft tissue grafts, if they are necessary. You’ll leave with a set of temporary teeth, immediately restoring your functional and complete smile.

Step 3: Final Restoration

It can take more than three months for your jaw to heal completely. During this period, your implants will permanently bond with your jawbone through a process called osseointegration. It’s this bond with the implant posts that offers the security and function you can expect from dental implants. After you’ve healed, you’ll be able to receive your final restorations. These fixed teeth will be created just for you, complementing the appearance of your gums and any remaining teeth. From then on, you’ll have a seamless smile and will be able to eat an unlimited diet. Give your dental implants the same routine care as your natural teeth, and you may never need to have another tooth replaced!

Why See a Periodontist for Dental Implants?

Receiving dental implants can provide great benefits to your daily life and your health, but before you commit to treatment, make sure you find an implant dentist you can trust. Some general dentists may have the experience to place dental implants, but they don’t have the specialized training that periodontists do to treat any case efficiently. Periodontists like Dr. Jean Li have specific training in implant surgery, soft tissue treatments and bone grafting, so they not only consider the functional outcome of your dental implants, but also the unique esthetics of your smile for the most natural results. We invite you to learn more about our dental implant team in Rockville, MD and Washington, DC, to see how our specialized care can transform your health and overall quality of life.
